Իդիոմաները հաճախ օգտագործվող բառակապակցություններ են կամ լեզվական արտահայտություններ, որոնց իմաստը տարբերվում է ուղիղ, բառային իմաստից։

Յուրաքանչյուր լեզու ունի իր իդիոմաները, որոնք հաճախ օգտագործվում են առօրյա խոսքում՝ տալով նրան հետաքրքիր երանգ և տրամադրություն։

BROWN

They are getting browned off by the situation.

GOLDEN

  • Golden opportunity – հիանալի հնարավորություն

She needed a new job and saw moving to New York as a golden opportunity.

GREEN

  • Green with the envy – շատ նախանձ լինել

Robin showed that she wasgreen with the envy when she saw Nick talking to another girl.

To be green – խակ, անփորձ լինել

Mary is rather green and can’t drive that large car.

PINK

  • In the pink of health – առողջության մարմնացում

It took a few weeks of bed rest, but I’m in the pink of health now.

RED

  • Be in the red – պարտք ունենալ, պարտքի մեջ լինել

I received a bill yesterday. As far as I understand we’re in the red.

  • Catch smb red-handed – հանցանքի վայրում բռնացնել

The thieves were caught red-handed and couldn’t escape.

See red – զայրույթից իրեն կորցնել

The corruption in government is making voters see red.
